Current events have left many individuals feeling uncertain and anxious in the workplace. They wonder about work stability, steady income, strong customer base, etc. In a leadership position, you are to provide assurance in the workplace. Here are a few ways to do so:
Open Communication
Transparency is the best way to go at any time, but especially in the turbulent times we have been experiencing as a whole. If there are any changes, share this information with the team as soon as possible. Do not let information “leak” out so that it is not assumed information was being hidden. Be up front and open. Many people are resistant to change but talking through it and being in the clear about everything will help to ease the process.
Flexibility
With the massive changes in scheduling and workplace tasks, there may be things that employees have already planned that now with create an interference. We are in the summer months and personal plans are often made months in advance. If a new work schedule has now created a conflict that impacts an employee vacation or something similar, work to be flexible so that plans do not have to be cancelled or changed. This can create undue stress and anxiety so if everyone is working together, it makes a big difference and can ease tension for everyone.
Discuss Future Goals
The final way to help create stability in the workplace is to discuss and plan future goals for the organization as well as for each employee. You may view this as an individual development plan that can help create a path for employees to reach their desired goals within the organization. This idea of planning is a method of transformational leadership that inspires employees, builds intellect, and can increase motivation and excitement in the workplace.
Although we are in a transitionary phase of major change in this country, we can remain hopeful and motivated that greatness is to come. This will only happen if we have an open, optimistic, and positive mindset and work with one another to create healthy workplaces. I certainly agree with open communication and transparency in the workplace. This builds trust and loyalty between you and your employee. As well I believe its essential to be flexible in the workplace because stress levels and anxiety is off the chart. I recently changed jobs and my previous vacation days conflicted with important dates on my new job
I explained theses days were made a year in advance and could not be rescheduled or canceled. My new supervisor was appreciative of my making the dates I would be unavailable known early and revealed in advance. It was extremely encouraging and lowered my stress level simply by him saying, we would work it out and he understoo…
