Dr. Ricks was thrilled to be a session speaker for the Virginia Community College Systems annual New Horizons conference in March 2023. The average community college student is in their 20s and is a part of a generation known as Generation Z. Dr. Ricks completed a research project on this topic and the results of this research were shared at this event in a session called "Collaborating with Generation Z".
According to Seemiller and Grace (2019), Generation Z was born between the years of 1995 and 2010 which means they range between approximately 13 and 28 years old today. They represent 61 million Americans and are expected to dominate the workforce within the next 5-10 years. This is the generation to get to know and the learn how to teach and work with them (Seemiller & Grace, 2019).
Continue to follow Dr. Ricks and her work as she researches this group and ensures they are successful in society. Dr. Ricks serves as a professor at Northern Virginia Community College and gets the pleasure of working with this emerging group on a daily basis.
