Charlotte City and Mecklenburg County hosted its second annual diversity, equity, and inclusion conference in Charlotte, NC November 7-10, 2021. This event featured prominent figures from across the United States who spent several days together discussing ways we can improve diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts throughout our organizations in all we do to ensure our employees feel respected and connected. Some of the speakers included:
Derrick "Fly Ty" Jacobs & Jacinda Jacobs - National Radio, Television, & Event Hosts and Motivational Speakers
Touissaint Romain - Deputy General Counsel at Appalachian State University
Beth Ruffin - The Everyday Inclusionist, Owner
Joshua Proby - Author & Motivational Speaker
Erica Bryant - Emmy Ward Winning Journalist, WSOC-TV News Anchor
Dr. Sabrina B. Ricks - SBR Workplace Leadership Services - President, Author, Adjunct Professor, and OWL VFD Volunteer Member
And many, many more...
The conference was a great success in that it sold out prior to its commencement and all sessions were filled as well as the general sessions. The sessions were filled with great information and everyone left energized and ready to serve as change agents in their communities and throughout the country.
Dr. Ricks served as a breakout session presenter and a general session speaker sharing about how to overcome workplace challenges and obstacles.
The DEI Conference team has announced that the third annual conference will be held over the same dates in 2022 and at the same location. Be sure to register early!
Finally, a special thank you to the mayor of Charlotte for hosting us, Vi Alexander Lyles. Another thank you to the Mecklenburg Sheriff's Department, led by Garry L. McFadden, for escorting me and keeping us safe during the conference. Thank you to all officials, attendees, presenters, and the DEI conference team who led such an amazing and unforgettable event!
